But despite a year-to-year increase, there’s been a steep decline — a 43 percent drop from May to August in San Diego.At the national level, apprehensions are down 56 percent over the past three months.Officials say the drop is due to improvements on the border wall as well as Mexico’s crackdown on illegal immigration.
