Man Utd enjoy biggest league win over Chelsea for 54 years

first_imgA rejuvenated Manchester United side strolled to a 4-0 victory over Chelsea to open their Premier League campaign with a bang on Sunday, achieving their biggest league win over the Blues for over half a century in the process.Frank Lampard took the reins of Chelsea for the first time in a competitive fixture at Old Trafford after taking over from Maurizio Sarri at the start of the summer. Judging by Sunday’s performance, though, he has a lot of work on his hands as United punished the visitors for their profligacy in front of goal.  Article continues below Editors’ Picks Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? Marcus Rashford fired his side into the lead against the run of play in the first half, firing past Kepa Arrizabalaga from the penalty spot. Anthony Martial then doubled the advantage 65 minutes in, before Rashford and debutant Daniel James sealed a convincing win for the hosts as Chelsea’s resistance crumbled in the last half hour of proceedings. The result sent United flying up the league table on the opening weekend, with a margin of victory not seen for quite some time. 4-0 – Manchester United’s 4-0 victory was their biggest over Chelsea in a top-flight match since winning 4-0 in March 1965 under Matt Busby. (Photo by Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images)The Notre Dame Fighting Irish should be in the mix for top contenders in the country this year, especially after making the College Football Playoff this past season. With another strong recruiting class coming to South Bend, Brian Kelly should have more than enough talent to make a title run.Well, the Fighting Irish are also getting an early jump on recruiting for 2020. Although the program isn’t toward the top of the rankings at this very moment, the team is projecting in the right direction.Outside of Alabama and LSU, no other notable program has a double-digit amount of 2020 recruits. The Fighting Irish currently have . five commits for their class, but that includes multiple four-star prospects.Right now, the Notre Dame football recruiting class for 2020 is ranked No. 17 in the country.Finding a worthy successor to Ian Book will eventually be the topic of conversation for Notre Dame, and perhaps one could be on the way.The most intriguing recruit for Notre Dame has to be pro-style quarterback Drew Pyne. He is listed as the No. 7 quarterback, per 247Sports.However, the best player in their class is Michael Mayer, who is the No. 1 tight end for 2020. Instead of rolling with Alabama or Georgia, the four-star recruit gave his commitment to the Fighting Irish.Notre Dame also holds commitments from defensive end Alexander Ehrensberger, tight end Kevin Baurman and defensive tackle Aidan Keanaaina.last_img read more
